Job Opening

Position: “Building Permits/Inspections”
Department: “Lincoln County Land Services - Building Division”.
Reports to: Land Services Director
Classification: Exempt
SUMMARY:
The building inspector is responsible for receiving and reviewing building permits and other related applications, issuance of building permits, tracking the project progress, performing the required inspections and to ensure compliance and enforcement of applicable County land development and fire codes. Also, this position will be involved in the continuing development and enhancement of Land Services responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Review for compliance and the issuing of building permits.
2. Inspecting building projects encompassing construction and/or remodeling as they pertain to County codes and state requirements. Performing required building inspections and administering the Uniform Fire Code.
3. Maintain the electronic database of permits issued and inspection progress.
4. In addition to the building division requirements, provide general assistance to the public in several areas, including addressing, land divisions and GIS.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Co-ordinate other activities related to administering the Uniform Fire Code.
2. Maintain a working knowledge of developing building practices (e.g. alternative materials, solar/green building).
3. Other duties as assigned by the director.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of the principles and practices of building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical construction and maintenance.
2. Knowledge of the County building and related development codes.
3. Knowledge of the standard tools, materials and practices of the building industry.
4. Familiarity with the use of standard equipment and testing devices of the building and construction industry enabling the applicant to ensure code compliance.
5. Ability to interpret and work from technical drawings and blueprints.
6. Ability to work with the general public in a pleasant and professional manner.
7. Computer skills with the ability to maintain and generate electronic records, reports and GIS products.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1. Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certificate.
2. At least five (5) years of experience as a building inspector is desired.
3. Good computer skills.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge and experience of the building/construction industry and code requirements. Building inspection certification(s) from an accredited course(s) is preferred.
2. At least five (5) years of experience in the building/construction field giving the applicant the required knowledge and skills to perform the position requirements.
3. Excellent communication and professional skills to serve the public and must work well with co-workers.
4. Training and/or experience interpreting applications and code requirements.
5. A valid Washington State driver license or the ability to acquire one prior to employment.
SALARY RANGE:
The salary range for this position has been established at Step 1 $3021.00 to Step 8 at $3955.00 monthly. Starting salary will be determined by qualifications and experience.
